Your idea of independence is ‘Gone with the Wind’ - Donald Trump’s latest warning to Alex Salmond

DONALD Trump has warned First Minister Alex Salmond that his dream of attaining Scottish independence will be “gone with the wind” as a result of the SNP’s drive for renewable energy.

In his latest letter to the First Minister, Mr Trump has accused Mr Salmond of “single handedly destroying” the economic wellbeing of Scotland.

He writes: “Scotland can never become independent under your leadership because thousands of industrial wind turbines will destroy your tourism sector and are not economically viable without the substantial help of your already overburdened taxpayers.”

Mr Trump appeared before the Scottish Parliament’s economy, energy and tourism committee last week to warn that future investment in Scotland could be jeopardised by the proliferation of wind farms.

In his latest letter to Mr Salmond, Mr Trump states: “According to the most recent poll from Scotland on Sunday, 83 per cent agreed that wind farms are a ‘blot’ on the Scottish landscape.

“I am sure that, from a political perspective, you will be interested in these numbers because your constituents are totally rejecting these monstrosities and agree that they will destroy your coastline, countryside and economy.”

A Scottish Government spokesman said: “Scotland’s commitment to renewables is delivering tangible economic benefits with thousands of jobs and tens of millions of pounds of investment being delivered to communities across Scotland.”
