Water commission praises 5–year plan

SCOTTISH Water has been praised for making a good start to its five-year plan, despite difficult weather conditions, in a new report.

The Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS) has said it is on track or better in eight areas, including investment programme, levels of service to customers, leakage reduction, investment costs, borrowing and financial strength, as part of its 2010 to 2015 aims.

Alan Sutherland, chief executive of WICS said: “This is in spite of difficult external conditions that include unusually severe weather, higher than expected inflation and a substantial increase in local authority rates.”

Trisha McAuley, deputy director at Consumer Focus Scotland, said: “We all foot the bill for water and sewerage services, so it is reassuring that Scottish Water is performing well on a number of fronts.”
