Video: Dolphins ‘flashmob’ boat off west coast

A GROUP of dolphins have been filmed ‘flashmobbing’ a sailing boat in the Firth of Lorne.

Editor of The Scotsman Ian Stewart was on the boat, which was sailing near the mouth of Loch Spelve on Thursday when the dolphins appeared.

Stewart said: “The dolphins were with us for over 20 minutes, swimming alongside, diving under the bow and jumping out of the water.

“It was an amazing experience. We’ve seen dolphins before, but never behaving like that,” he added.

Bottle-nosed dolphins are regular visitors to the waters in the Firth of Lorne, along with harbour porpoises, while minke whales and basking sharks have also been recorded in the area.
