Scottish town hit by earthquake

People in Dumfries reported feeling a ‘low rumbling’ at around 1pm on Saturday.

A 2.0-magnitude earthquake was felt in parts of the Southern Uplands on Saturday.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) said people reported a "low rumbling" in Dumfries at around 1pm.

Data from the BGS show that that depth of the quake was roughly six miles and its epicentre was around five miles west of the town.

Scotland is no stranger to earthquakes with a slightly weaker, 1.3-magnitude one being recorded on September 2 in Perth and Kinross. Residents in the area reported feeling a

slight tremor at half past three as the earthquake struck.

One of the largest earthquakes in Dumfries was recorded in 2006 on boxing day, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale.
