Scotland's weather: Ullapool warmer than Athens

Winter's grip on Scotland loosened today with a spell of unseasonably warm weather making parts of Scotland hotter than Athens.

The country endured its coldest November night since 2010 just two weeks ago but the mercury has soared to a balmy 17C in Ullapool today.

Elgin enjoyed temperatures of 16C.

A bitterly cold -11.7C was recorded in Braemar in Aberdeenshire on 21 November, with freezing fog and icy road conditions causing havoc for commuters.

Aboyne in Aberdeenshire saw a massive 22C swing, recording -9C last week compared to 13C today.

This week could the opposite as layers of cloud are expected to trap warm air, pushing up temperatures.

Warm weather across Scotland meant much of the country was hotter than Athens, where temperatures reached 15C.
