Keeping up with Joneses given renewables spin

A NETWORK of “green homes” has been set up in Scotland to enable people to visit and find out how to install renewables in their property.

The Scottish Government hopes the Green Homes Network will give people the chance to talk to other homeowners about the costs and savings of installing renewables such as biomass burners, solar panels and turbines, and get tips and advice.

So far, more than 500 homes across Scotland have signed up to be part of the network.

Energy minister Fergus Ewing, launching the scheme, said: “It’s a practical, simple way to help people find out more about how to reduce their carbon footprint, learning from the experiences of householders who have already taken the first steps and can talk them through the process and the benefits.”

An interactive web tool has been developed to enable homeowners to browse properties in their neighbourhood that have become part of the scheme – visit www.greenhomesnetwork.org.uk.
