Funding boost for West Highland Way

SCOTLAND’S West Highland Way is to benefit from £750,0000 of funding aimed at improving the trail.

About 85,000 people each year visit the 96-mile route, which runs from Milngavie to Fort William, with 30,000 walking the entire path.

The funding is part of a £3.15 million package aimed at improving Scotland’s forest estates. Environment minister Paul Wheelhouse said it would help more people enjoy the lowlands, forests and mountains of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park areas.

“We want more Scots and visitors to enjoy and have access to Scotland’s great outdoors. This funding boost for the Forestry Commission Scotland will help towards achieving that,” he said.

As well as the West Highland Way funding, £1m will be spent building and upgrading paths on the Great Glen Way, between Fort William and Inverness.
