Campaign against Hunterston coal fired power station wins award

A SUCCESSFUL campaign which stopped the most unpopular development in Scottish planning history has won an environmental award.

The “Say No to Hunterston” campaign, opposing plans for a coal-fired power station in North Ayrshire, was named the most Outstanding Contribution to the Scottish Environment in the latest Scottish Green Awards.

Campaigners, including residents in Hunterston, environmental organisations and faith groups, succeeded in preventing the development which objectors said would have destroyed part of a nationally protected wildlife site.
