Elderly walker dies after hill collapse

AN ELDERLY man rescued from a hilltop after collapsing while walking died yesterday.

The 78-year-old had been reported overdue by a family member at about 7:30pm on Monday after he failed to return from a walk.

A search was launched and he was found near the summit of Cairn of Barns in the Glen Clova area of Angus later that night.

The man, who was from Dundee, had suffered a suspected heart attack.

He had not been named last night, but police said he was an experienced hill walker.
