A coastguard crew from South Queensferry were called to Cramond Island near Edinburgh at 1.40pm where four people and a puppy were stranded on the causeway between the island and the mainland and another four were stuck on the island itself.

One woman, 28, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance as a precaution, said a spokeswoman for the coastguard.

“Eight people, five females and three males, and a dog were taken to shore,” she said.

“The puppy was on the causeway and was getting distressed as the water had risen up to knee height,” she added.
