A man has been arrested in connection with two sexual assaults in St Andrews.

Women in the Fife town were advised not to walk alone at night after a 27-year-old was attacked on Wednesday April 9.

The next day, there was another indecent assault on an 18-year-old student on the town’s university campus.

Police appealed for information in the wake of the incidents and released CCTV footage of a man they wanted to trace.

A 30-year-old man has now been arrested in connection with the attacks and is due to appear at Cupar Sheriff Court tomorrow.

A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 30-year-old man is in custody in connection with two serious sexual assaults which took place in St Andrews last month.

“Officers would like to thank the public for their considerable assistance with this investigation.”
