A MEMBER of the Japanese royal family has spoken of her “very fruitful” time studying at Edinburgh University.

Princess Mako, a granddaughter of Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, has been studying art history at the university since September last year.

The princess came to the Capital as an exchange student from the International Christian University in Tokyo.

She added: “I had lots of opportunities to speak English and I think this experience will be useful.”
