Education funding in spotlight

A CONFERENCE addressing the financial crisis facing Scottish education is set to take place next week at Oatridge College in West Lothian.

The event organisers believe there is a danger that the present, already cash-strapped system will fail to deliver for a whole generation, unless there is a transformation in education, utilising new approaches through social enterprises and community involvement, and harnessing the vast resources of the internet.

The conference is organised by Colin Campbell, founder of Assist Social Capital. He said: “What we have to do is stop looking at the formal education centres as being the only answer.

“We need to start looking to our communities’ workplaces and the opportunities they provide for learning, then support learners on their own learning journeys.“
