Edinburgh Zoo may buy panda sperm as plan B

FROZEN sperm may have to be brought in to help the Capital’s two giant pandas conceive, the director of Edinburgh Zoo has admitted.

The revelation came amid hopes that Tian Tian and Yang Guang would mate within days after last year’s unsuccessful attempt.

Tian Tian will also be artificially inseminated with Yang Guang’s sperm but panda project director Iain Valentine said conception could not be guaranteed.

He said: “We may need to consider other options. There are other male pandas who could provide samples but that would involve negotiations with the Chinese government.”
