Edinburgh milestones

Brian Cavhill, from Newtongrange, has been fascinated by various “milestones” throughout Edinburgh

“They usually just say “Edinburgh - three miles”, or something similar, with an arrow pointing towards the city centre,” he writes.

“Sometimes they’re built into walls or on pathways dotted around the city. I’d like to know how small Edinburgh was around the time these markers began and which areas it comprised?”
