Edinburgh gardener in line for care awards gong

AN EDINBURGH gardener is to be recognised as one of the leading members of support staff in Scotland at an awards ceremony celebrating the brightest stars in the independent care home industry.

John Gynn, 47, who works for Strachan House in the city, has been selected from more than 400 contenders as a finalist of the Ancillary and Support Staff Award, sponsored by MHA Auchlochan, at the Scottish Care Awards 2012, which is backed by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

The glittering ceremony – to be held at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Friday and hosted by TV presenter and singer Michelle McManus – celebrates the finest of the industry.

Ranald Mair, chief executive of Scottish Care, will be the master of ceremonies for the evening.

Fiona Moncur, general manager at Strachan House in Edinburgh, nominated John for the award, and said: “John is an invaluable member of the team at Strachan House.

“He would never seek glory or praise for himself, but does not realise the impact he has on residents in the home, their families, or how infectious his enthusiasm can be on other staff departments.”
