General manage Donal Hurrell said: “The job will involve turning up, admiring the vast whisky collection and recommending the best varieties. Anyone of any legal drinking age can apply, from anywhere.

“Most whisky enthusiasts enjoy a dram, but the real aficionados we want to hear from savour everything from the colour and the nose to the subtle tones and flavours.”

He added: “This is a great opportunity for someone who is a real whisky lover to come along and help us choose our list. We’re looking for a keen amateur who will become our freelance whisky consultant.

“We anticipate a lot of applications but we’re really looking for someone who is genuinely enthusiastic about whisky.”

The unpaid post will involve evaluating two to four “nips” per session.

A spokeswoman from the Scottish Whisky Experience said: “The best way to taste a whisky is to look at five different areas – colour, bodyweight, nose, taste and finish.”
