E coli sufferer now 'well'

A SCOTTISH man has recovered after being diagnosed with the country's first case of the new strain of the E coli bug following a trip to Germany.

He is believed to have had mild symptoms and health officials said there was no risk of him spreading the bug to other people. The man, who does not wish to be identified, is said to be now "well".

Bean sprouts from an organic farm in northern Germany are believed to have been the source of the outbreak, which has killed 31 people. Traces were detected in a packet of bean sprouts from the farm in North Rhine-Westphalia. Some 3,000 people have become ill with the previously unknown strain of the bug.
