Drunk pays the price

A DRUNK who smashed pictures in a Midlothian pub during a disturbance with another customer has been ordered to pay £300 compensation and fined £400.

Wayne Jeffrey, 20, was told by Sheriff Gordon Lidddle at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday: "You will have to cough up 700 and that will cut down on your drinking money".

Jeffrey, of Bonnyrigg, had pled guilty to committing a breach of the peace in the Horseshoe Bar in St Andrews Street, Dalkeith, on May 1 this year.

Defence agent Kenneth Cloggie said it had been a Monday Bank Holiday and Jeffrey had had more drink than usual.
