Drug-dealing golf worker avoids prison

A GOLF shop worker who peddled cocaine to his friends has avoided a jail term.

Kenneth Glen, 25, a former club shop worker at the historic Royal Musselburgh Golf Club, was caught up in a major police operation which netted drugs with a possible street price of £1 million.

But a judge who yesterday ordered him to carry out 300 hours of unpaid community work accepted that Glen, of Potters Path, Tranent, was only a minor player.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Glen played football with friends who snorted cocaine. They told him that their usual supply had failed. Glen offered to help, saying he knew someone at a gym he used who could fill the gap.

He claimed that, in total, he had bought cocaine worth about £500 and had not gained financially from passing it on.

Defence QC Neil Murray said it had indicated an almost child-like naivety on Glen’s part.
