Drug-dealing cop cleared of assaults

A FORMER police officer who was jailed for dealing cocaine has been cleared of attacking his girlfriend with a bottle after the charges were dropped.

Christopher McGinn was accused of smashing a bottle over Laura Lothian’s head before dragging her through their home in New Street, Musselburgh.

The 33-year-old was charged with a second attack on Ms Lothian on the same day when he was accused of repeatedly seizing her by the arms in the town’s North High Street.

McGinn denied the charges and, minutes before his trial was due to begin at Haddington Sheriff Court yesterday, the Crown dropped the case due to a lack of evidence.
