Driving on ice sparks warning

POLICE have warned against "stupidity" on ice after a car was driven along the Union Canal in West Lothian and ended up submerged.

Two men escaped from the Peugeot 406 after it fell through ice near Winchburgh on Monday.

A police spokesman said: "This is an example of the type of stupidity that the emergency services occasionally have to deal with."

Two men, aged 24 and 22, have been arrested and charged over the incident and are due to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court.
