Drivers face traffic woes as gas work begins

MOTORISTS are being warned they could face disruption as the latest round of gas works gets under way.

The 146,000 project to renew gas mains in Blackhall is set to last for eight weeks, although work will cease over the festive period.

More than 800 metres of pipes will be replaced in Craigcrook Avenue, Craigcrook Park, Craigcrook Road and Loch Road.

Scotia Gas Networks (SGN), the company carrying out the work, said the operation would be suspended on December 17 and resume early in the new year.

Last year, the Evening News revealed motorists in Edinburgh face 23 years of hold-ups as contractors replace 400 miles of gas mains. Around half of Edinburgh's 850-mile network is being dug up.
