Drivers caught using phones

NEARLY 1300 motorists were caught by Lothian and Borders Police using a mobile phone behind the wheel during the first seven months of this year, new figures have shown.

A total of 1268 – or six drivers every day – were caught between January and the end of July. But the number of drivers caught flouting the law is expected to fall against the previous year. Police figures showed that 3273 fines were issued for the offence in 2011 and 3767 for the year before.
