Driver scarred in roadside attack

A DRIVER has been scarred for life after being attacked as he stopped to check the damage to his car following a minor road collision with another vehicle.

Strathclyde Police said the man, aged 47, was subjected to the “horrifying” and “calculated” attack on Houston Road, at the junction with Barnsford Road in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, at around 1.30pm on Friday.

Police do not believe the attack was random and suggested the collision was intentional.

The driver’s black Bentley GT was hit from behind by a silver four-door saloon car, which had three male occupants, and the victim pulled over to speak to the other driver. Both agreed to move their vehicles further off the road.

Then the front passenger of the saloon car appeared at the victim’s side window. As the victim wound it down, the passenger attacked him, leaving him with severe facial injuries.

The attacker was described as being white, 40-50 years old, around 6ft tall, of a medium build, with short grey hair and ear-length side burns. Police said he was wearing a black zipper jacket with a white top underneath, and light denim trousers.

The driver of the silver saloon car was also said to be white, about 5ft 10in and of a thin build. The backseat passenger was described as being from 25 to 30 years old, with a very pale complexion and “salt and pepper” hair. He wore a black V-neck jumper with grey jogging bottoms and dark trainers.

Detective Sergeant Stevie Adams from Paisley CID said: “This was a truly horrifying, calculated attack. I would like to appeal to motorists who were driving on Houston Road at the time the incident occurred to get in touch.”
