Driver hurt as wheel flies off

A WOMAN had to be rescued after the back wheel of her car came hurtling off on the A89 road in Broxburn.

Firefighters used a hydraulic cutting device to remove the roof of the car after it came off the road near the junction at Blyth Road at around 1.30am yesterday.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue said: "One female was trapped after the back wheel of the car she was driving sheared off.

"We removed the roof of her car to allow us to free her and she was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to be treated for possible back injuries."
