Driver cut free after A9 Highland crash with lorry

A trapped driver had to be cut free from his 4x4 Range Rover after a crash on the A9 in the Highlands involving a lorry.

The road was closed as firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to rescue the man. Rescuers also had to give first aid to his female passenger.

The road was shut for two hours following the accident at around 10.16am on Thursday.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service station manager Ross Nixon was at the scene and said: “The crews did an excellent job and worked closely with their colleagues at the Scottish Ambulance Service to ensure the safe extrication of the casualty.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland added: “The A9 was closed in both directions at Ralia following a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

“Diversions were in place via Kingussie and Newtonmore.”

Meanwhile, one lane of the A9 was left blocked at Auchterarder after a two-vehicle crash on Thursday morning.
