THE Capital is to get its first ever Dr Martens store in a development hailed by retail experts as a sign of Princes Street’s revival as a key shopping destination.
The iconic brand will launch its Princes Street store on 14 August and is set to unveil a brand new collection of boots, brogues, brothel creepers and high heels. Dr Martens fans and fashion lovers will also be able to buy the new A/W footwear, clothing and accessories designs, as well as a wide selection of Dr Martens-branded clothing.
Amy Nelson, UK retail marketing manager, said: “The DM culture is vast in Scotland, especially in Edinburgh, so we’re delighted to meet the demand with the opening of our new store. We’ve spotted the variety of trends and styles on Edinburgh’s busiest shopping street and we can’t wait to put our own stamp on it with some of our best sellers – including our signature 1460 boot.”
The Edinburgh store will be the brand’s second Scottish opening and follows UK launches in Norwich, Brighton, Milton Keynes and Newcastle. “Dr Martens encourages people to express their own individuality, celebrate style and stand up for what they believe in,” said Ms Nelson.
“We’ll be asking the people of Edinburgh to share with us what they stand for.”
Economic experts hailed the opening as evidence Princes Street was bouncing back after the with tram works. Graham Birse, director of the Edinburgh Institute of Leadership and Management Practice, said: “It’s great that a brand like that is seeking a home on Princes Street – the potential of the street remains undiminished. Of course, one shop does not make a street but it’s significant, particularly if it’s followed by other brands.”
