The Scottish Ambulance Service said it took one bus passenger to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with minor injuries, while firefighters said they helped to release the bus driver after his foot became trapped in the crash.

The road will be closed in both directions until at least midnight, police confirmed.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they initially sent crews from Haddington, Tranent, Dunbar, and Newcraighall to the crash site.

A spokeswoman said: “We were called out by the ambulance service.

“The bus driver was trapped by his foot. He was uninjured but we used small tools to release him.

“There were 31 passengers on the bus.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said the crash happened on the northbound side.

The bus passengers completed their journey with another company, he said.

The spokesman added: “The road was closed until midnight because of debris.”
