Donors on call with mobile

HEALTH chiefs have renewed a campaign for people to sign up to the organ donor register through their iPhone.

NHS Lothian was the first health board in the UK to create the application for the popular device.

The improved facility makes it even easier for people to register, bosses said, with 200 people having already downloaded it.

The free app contains videos and further information about organ donation, and is an update of the old tool which attracted 10,000 people from across the Lothians.

Consultant transplant surgeon John Forsythe said: "While this is great news, we must remember that there are still around 650 Scots waiting for a transplant and three people die unnecessarily every day while waiting for an organ to become available.

"The more people we have on the register, the better the chances of saving lives. I would urge everyone to join today; it only takes two minutes, but you could save up to eight lives."
