Donations pour in for family after Kirsty Aitchison found dead

More than £5,000 has been raised for the family of a mother-of-four who was found dead in the River Clyde, a week after she went missing.

The body of Kirsty Aitchison, 30, was recovered from the Glasgow river by firefighters on Saturday.

The discovery was made close to an area police divers had swept earlier last week as officers searched for Ms Aitchison, missing since a night out in the city last Saturday.

The 30-year-old, who was deaf, had not been in contact with friends or family since she left Campus bar in Sauchiehall Street at about 3am last Sunday. She was later spotted on CCTV at the Broomielaw near the River Clyde.

Police launched appeals in sign language and Ms Aitchison’s mother Fay made a plea for information.

A fundraising drive was also started by friends to support her family and the £2,000 target has been surpassed. A message posted on the JustGiving page said: “We have lost a beautiful lady – Kirsty Aitchison.

“Kirsty was a fantastic mum to her four children, they were her world. She always had something positive and funny to say about her children. They will be truly devastated.

“Kirsty’s death is a great shock, it was unexpected. She was young so no provision had been made for a funeral at this time in her life. Any contributions will help greatly.

“Kirsty should have a beautiful funeral service to celebrate her life and provide comfort to her family and friends, and also Deaf/BSL communities. We really appreciate any donation.”

Police Scotland has said there are no suspicious circumstances.
