Donald Trump wind farm advert is ‘misleading’

DONALD Trump was yesterday accused of placing a “highly misleading” advert in a Scottish newspaper as part of his crusade against wind farm developments planned for Scotland’s coast.

The American tycoon’s organisation yesterday took out a full page advert in the Aberdeen-based Press & Journal with a picture of 11 rusting and redundant wind turbines, under the headline “Welcome to Scotland!”

The advert, which carries a footnote stating “photo not taken in Scotland” proclaims: “Alex Salmond wants to build 8,750 of these monstrosities – just think about it.”

Niall Stuart, chief executive of Scottish Renewables, accused the tycoon’s organisation of trying to trick the public. He said the picture in the advert was of the Kamaoa wind farm in Hawaii, shut down in 2006, after the turbines fell into disrepair.

He said: “If wind power is really impacting on Scotland’s landscape in the way these two organisations claim, then why did they have to go to the other side of the world and use a photograph of a wind farm in Hawaii to make their point?”

George Sorial, the Trump Organisation’s managing director of international development, said: “This ad was meant to provoke some thought.”
