Dog in tale of dramatic rescue

A LIFEBOAT was called out to rescue a distressed elderly dog stranded on rocks off the coast of Fife just moments before being engulfed by the rising tide.

Sheba, 15, was hauled to safety by the rapid response lifeboat off Crail harbour. She had escaped on Friday, but was spotted by a fisherman on Saturday morning, standing on a rock surrounded by water and quickly disappearing under the incoming tide.

Margaret Gallivan, from Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire, had taken her pet on holiday to Crail, where she had rented a house, but Sheba went missing from the garden on Friday evening. Ms Gallivan said: "She's an old dog and suffers from arthritis, which makes her stiffer than most. I'm delighted to have her back."
