Dismal dancing sees madcap Porty couple fail on second talent show in three years

Double act Zedd and Saffire bombed when they appeared on Britain’s Got Talent three years ago . . . but they’ve taken bad auditions to a new level with their latest antics.

The madcap pair have now taken to the stage to try their hand at dancing – but faced a similar reaction from a fresh trio of judges.

Zedd and Saffire, real names Craig, 44, and Debbie Stephens, 49, tried to woo the judges of Sky1’s Got To Dance with their moves.

But aghast Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt, 30, Diversity’s Ashley Banjo, 24, and JLS’ Aston Merrygold, also 24, were less than impressed with their dismal routine and failed to put them through to the next round of the competition.

Their audition in London last October was aired for the first time last night on the channel and will be repeated again on Saturday from 6pm on Sky2.

Previously, the Portobello couple failed to impress millionaire music mogul Simon Cowell, 53, with a 2010 audition on the popular ITV show Britain’s Got Talent where they sang their own song Lift Me, which included rapping from Craig.

Craig said: “It was one of those spur of the moment things to enter Got To Dance. It was my idea, I used to do break-dancing when I was young, and I did a lot of robotic dancing and body popping.

“I like to sing and rap so I thought, ‘how am I going to feel on a platform without rapping and singing?’. It was strange for me because I’ve never danced in all those years.”

Craig wore a pair of “googly eye” glasses that Saffire – who works as a catering assistant – bought him while on holiday in Brighton last year.

He sprayed them silver for the audition and said he thought he “looked the part”.

The couple, who are married and have two children, called their dance act Fresh Alternative and described the style as “robotic and disco dancing”, or “RoboPop”. Like RoboCop would say ‘lie down your weapons’, RoboPop is ‘lie down your dance moves’,” Craig said.

In the clip shown last night, Zedd and Saffire are seen talking before the audition, with Zedd telling Saffire: “We are the food, we have got to bring it to the table and they have got to chew us up and say ‘that was good, I enjoyed it’, but not spit you out afterwards.”

After dancing to a mix of Nicki Minaj’s Pound The Alarm and Turn Me On by David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj, Diversity’s Ashley said: “I have seen a lot of dance styles, but what were you doing?”

But Craig said they were just delighted to be part of the show – despite the less-than-impressed judges

He added: “We really enjoyed the audition. We just wanted to go out and entertain everybody and we really did – we had the audience cheering and in fits of laughter, it was complete brilliance.”

The couple, who watched their audition on TV last night, failed to achieve a single gold star from the judges. The eventual winner of the show will receive a £250,000 cheque.
