Development's parking drive to cut congestion

AN environmentally friendly housing development aiming to cut traffic congestion is to give priority for parking to families - while the owners of one-bedroom flats will have to buy parking spaces or use public transport links.

The 50 million George Wimpey City development, to be built at Leith Docks, wants to encourage people to use alternatives such as car clubs and public transport.

But Ron Smith of the Edinburgh Solicitors' Property Centre said it would discriminate against the owners of small flats who needed a car for work.
