Designer delights at charity sale

WHEN seasoned shoppers prepare to hit the January sales, charity shops do not tend to feature on their hit list.

However, with designer clothes and exclusive vintage purses on offer, one Edinburgh store is hoping to buck that trend.

Homeless charity Shelter will hold its sale at the Stockbridge store on Tuesday, and has a number of products more at home in trendy high street outlets.

Among the stock are Burberry and Marc Jacobs clothes, 1920s evening purses and rare souvenirs dating back to the 19th century.

Last year the shop’s sale brought in £2000 in the first day, a figure which reached £12,000 by the end of the week. With this year’s stock, it is hoped that target can be beaten.

Pete Jew, manager of the shop on Raeburn Place, said: “We are really excited about this year’s sale.

“As well as Burberry and Marc Jacobs we’ve got lots of other unique designer pieces and antique collectables.

“Our annual sale has been a fantastic success in previous years and we hope this year will be no different.

“Shoppers will not only be able to pick up fantastic designer brands at discount prices but all funds raised will go towards supporting Shelter Scotland’s work to help people struggling with housing issues.”

The sale will begin at 10am.
