Derby teams get skates on

Two of the country's top roller derby teams are set to meet in the Capital this weekend in one of the biggest battles in the sport's UK history.

The Auld Reekie Roller Girls' (ARRG) Twisted Thistles will clash with the London Rollergirls' Brawl Saints at Meadowbank Sports Centre on Saturday, the first time two teams recognised by the world's roller derby governing body have competed publicly on Scottish soil.

The match is the first-ever public bout in Scotland to have been sanctioned by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), the US-based governing body of modern flat track roller derby.

ARRG, which was set up in 2008, is the first league in Scotland to become a WFTDA apprentice league, and one of the first in Europe.
