Deer stalking German tourist dies in Highlands

A MAN who collapsed and died while deer stalking in the Highlands has been named as 46-year-old German Harald Hoffman.

Hoffman, a married father-of-two, was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness after the emergency on the 44,500-acre Canisp and Drumrunie Estate, owned by the Assynt Foundation in Lochinver.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “About 2.31pm on Friday, 4 October, police in Lochinver received a report that a 46 year old man had collapsed in the Loch Assynt area of Lochinver.

“Stornoway Coastguard Helicopter attended the area, with police from Lochinver, and the man was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, where, sadly, he was found to be dead on arrival.”

Mr Hoffman, from Marburg in Germany, was in a party of four alongside a second German national and two deer stalkers employed by the Assynt Foundation.

The police spokesman added: “Mr Hoffmann was a married man of 25 years and is survived by his wife, 23-year-old daughter and 21-year-old son. All next of kin, in Germany, are aware and they request privacy at this distressing time.

“There are no suspicious circumstances relating to this incident.”
