Decision to strip Lindsay of OBE ‘unfair’

THE decision to strip a former council boss of his OBE has been attacked as “unfair” and “ridiculous”.

John Lindsay, ex-chief executive of East Lothian Council, was divested of the title after an investigation by the Queen’s honours forfeiture committee following a row over his £149,000 retirement package.

But independent Musselburgh councillor John Caldwell said: “This thing has dragged on for five years now To take this action now is ridiculous and a step too far. It’s not as if Mr Lindsay has been tried for treason. “I think it’s exposing the council again unfairly. East Lothian Council is one of the best councils in Scotland and the last thing we need is more publicity about this kind of nonsense.”
