Dealer arrested after asking police for directions

Lukasz Woloszyn had been at a Hogmanay party in Prestonpans, East Lothian, last year and needed to get back to his home in Edinburgh.

The 26-year-old from a “respected” family approached police officers in the street at about 9am on New Year’s Day 2014.

Woloszyn made the approach despite carrying a bag which contained Ecstasy tablets, cannabis, LSD, Amphetamines, and Diazepam as well as knuckledusters and a knife.

He was also clearly the worse for wear and officers decided to search him, finding the drugs and weapons.

Rather than getting directions to his home in the London Road area of Edinburgh, Woloszyn instead took a short ride in a police car to the local station.

He was today sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for supplying cannabis and Ecstasy and possession of a knife and was sentenced to 210 hours’ community service.

He had earlier pled guilty to the offences at a hearing on December 2, 2014.

At the earlier hearing the court was told that Woloszyn, a cleaner, waved at police on a routine patrol and said he was looking for London Road, Edinburgh.

Police checked his mobile and found messages including “any MDMA [Ecstasy] around?”, “It’s my birthday I’d like to celebrate in a good way. HAHA.” and “Hi Lukasz do you have any “Lucy” [LSD] and how much would it cost?”.

Defence lawyer Angela Craig told the court: “He has secured a cleaning job at Tony Macaroni this week. He has no outstanding cases and no previous convictions.

“He certainly doesn’t want his family learning of this. He has learned a valuable lesson from this.

“I think he thought he was just buying drugs for himself and his friends. He has turned his situation around - he is still using cannabis for his own use. He knows he’ll have to stop that too.”

Sheriff Frank Crowe told Woloszyn he would have been facing 12 to 18 months in jail had he not pled guilty to a number of charges.

And the sheriff warned that after the Ecstasy-related death at the weekend of keen Mixed Martial Arts fighter Richie Carrigan, from Kirkintilloch, that Woloszyn should not want a part in the drugs trade.

Sheriff Crowe said: “It sounds as if he was pretty intoxicated. You really don’t want a part in drugs. Especially after hearing of the Ecstasy death at the weekend.

“He will receive some sort of sentence that takes him out of being a player in the drugs trade. I hope he stops taking cannabis soon as he’ll be meeting with the same people.”
