Date set for Chirac corruption trial

Former French president Jacques Chirac will go back on trial in September on corruption charges linked to his time as mayor of Paris.

A Paris court announced yesterday that the trial will be held from 5 to 23 September. It is the first trial involving a former French head of state since the Second World War.

Chirac, 78, will be joined by nine other defendants. He denies wrongdoing.
