Danny MacAskill perfects the art of stunt cycling on streets of Edinburgh

STUNT cyclist Danny MacAskill takes to the air as he delivers a live show as part of the Edinburgh Art Festival.

Originally from Skye, the cyclist shot to fame in 2009 after a video filmed on the streets of Edinburgh registered more than 30 million hits on YouTube.

He is taking part in the art festival, despite having undergone a back operation only five months ago.

Discussing the festival, he said: “Is what I do art? It’s quite funny getting permission to do this as a so-called artist.”

The festival, which began on 3 August, also includes work from Turner Prize-winning Scottish sound artist Susan Philipsz.

All this year’s commissioned artists have firm connections with Scotland. They include native Scots with an international reputation and overseas artists who have trained or are based here.
