Daily A&E trip for homeless

A HOMELESS person is admitted to accident and emergency nearly every day across the Lothians, figures have shown.

In 2009 there were more than 300 people with "no fixed abode" who ended up in casualty.

In more than 100 cases, "drunk and intoxicated" was cited as the reason for admission, while chest pain was the second most common with 41.

The statistics, released under freedom of information, also reveal one homeless person a month attends having been assaulted, with 18 having overdosed on drugs.
