Sentencing Angus, 33, yesterday judge Lord Malcolm told him knife crime was a scourge on society.

"It is hard to imagine a worse example of this type of crime," the judge said.

"You deliberately armed yourself with a large knife and with your young children nearby you carried out a cowardly and vicious attack."

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Angus of Kingsknowe Court, flew into a rage when he discovered his children had been dumped at a local library.

He began arguing with ex-partner Marie McFarlane and the new man in her life when he took the boys back to their home.

Angus admitted assaulting Mr Carter to the danger of his life.

His record includes six previous convictions for assault and one for assault and robbery.
