D-day for Linlithgow shops and housing plan revealed

A DECISION on whether to allow a proposed shopping and housing hub for the outskirts of Linlithgow to go ahead will be made later this month.

A proposal to build up to 600 new homes, a hotel, neighbourhood centre and supermarket on Blackness Road in Burghmuir will go before West Lothian Council at a meeting on April 17.

A 60-bed care home, petrol station and long-stay car park are also part of the plans by Wallace Land. Falkirk
Council is among objectors to the development’s proposed supermarket, saying it would have a significant impact on the viability of Bo’ness town centre.

A decision to approve a 50 per cent increase in the size of Linlithgow’s Regent Centre last month is believed to have hurt the prospects of the Burghmuir development winning enough support.

More than 1000 people objected to the £90 million development during a consultation period last year.
