Cyclist hurt as car knocks him off bike

A CYCLIST today described how he was knocked down by a car and thrown on to its bonnet during an accident in the city centre.

Ross Aitken was cycling to his home in Silverknowes Neuk when he was struck by a vehicle on Queen Street at around 6.20pm on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who works for British Gas, suffered a sprained neck and whiplash in the collision.

Mr Aitken said: “The car was turning right on to Frederick Street when it hit me at about 20mph. I went on to the bonnet and rolled to the top of the windscreen before falling off when it stopped.

“I feel very grateful because three doctors and a fireman were among the passers-by. They were able to help me until the ambulance came.”

Mr Aitken was treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and released later that evening.
