Cumbrian shootings: A timeline of events

At least five people have been killed and a minimum of seven injured after a gunman went on a shooting spree in Cumbria today.

Here is a timeline of how events unfolded.

• 10.35am

Police are called to Duke Street in Whitehaven after reports of gun shots being fired.

A warning is then issued to residents of Whitehaven, Egremont and Seascale to remain indoors.

Police confirm that "a number of people" have been killed and injured in a series of shootings.

Police name the suspect as Derrick Bird, 52, from Rowrah, near Frizington, and a photograph is issued.

Radio Cumbria reports that at least four people are feared dead as police reveal that Bird has abandoned his car near Boot and is now believed to be on foot.

Police say a body, believed to be that of Bird, has been found in a wood near Boot.

Cumbria Police say that 12 people were killed and 25 wounded in the spree. They also said there were 30 separate crime scenes.
