Wife’s fury at bail refusal

THE wife of a British businessman of arms-dealing in America said it was: “heartbreaking” that he would have to remain in prison to await trial.

Christopher Tappin, 65 was refused bail and will remain in prison until his trial.

Judge Robert Casteneda ruled Tappin must remain in custody after prosecutors told the federal court in El Paso, Texas, that he might be a “danger to the community” if released.

Elaine Tappin, 62 of Orpington, Kent, said: “This is an outrage. God only knows how he’ll bear up.

“It’s heartbreaking. I’m shocked and deeply disappointed.”
