Tributes pour in for 'kind and wonderful' Edinburgh pensioner found dead in her city home

Tributes have been pouring in to a ‘kind and wonderful’ Edinburgh pensioner who was found dead in her city home.

The body of Jadwiga Szczygielska, 77, was found in her Pirniefield Bank home in Seafield at about 7.50am on Saturday, April 18th after paramedics were called.

Detectives launched a murder inquiry following the woman’s death.

A 44-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, April 21st.

Tributes have since been flooding in for the 77-year-old on social media.

A former neighbour wrote: "Jadwiga was so kind with me and my husband.

"She was such lovely lady, very sad news."

Another loved one added: "I just can't believe it. She was a wonderful, warm person.

"A helpful grandmother for everyone. My heart is broken, rest in peace."

A third wrote: "This is really sad. She was such a lovely lady."

Others who knew her also shared their tributes after seeing the news on the Edinburgh Police Facebook page, with one person saying: “So sad a lovely lady rip fly high with the angels.”

Another wrote: “So sad she was a lovely woman her wee dog going to miss her.”

Detective Inspector Bob Williamson, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our enquiries indicate that this was an isolated incident but we are keen to speak to anyone who may be able to help with our investigation.“If anyone saw anything suspicious in the early morning of Saturday, 18 April, or who may have information that would help us then please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0756 of 18/04/2020 or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
