‘Suspicious’ death after incident at Tranent kebab shop

ONE man died and another was said to have been injured in an incident yesterday afternoon at a kebab shop in Tranent.Police are appealing for witnesses and said they were treating the death of the 59-year-old man as suspicious.

Unconfirmed reports said he suffered a heart attack after a fight broke out in the shop.

It is believed the man who died lived in Ormiston and was a delivery driver for Kopas Take Away. The shop owner is also believed to have been injured.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said last night: “Police in East Lothian are appealing for witnesses following the death of a 59-year-old man this evening in Tranent.

“The death of the gentleman is being treated as suspicious, and the police are following a positive line of inquiry.”

Police from Edinburgh were drafted in to the scene. The High Street remained closed off for several hours, with cordons across the street and squad cars with flashing lights blocking all access.

Police said they were still keen to find anyone who might have seen the incident and who could help to establish exactly what had taken place.
